TRUST DISAPPOINTED FOR LOCAL PARENTS

The Emmanuel School Trust (TEST) were recently informed by the Department for Education (DfE) that the September 2024 opening of the brand-new Emmanuel Community School (ECS Beam Park) on part of the redeveloped Ford Dagenham plant has now been postponed to September 2025.

No doubt, this news has come as a disappointment for parents. TEST worked tirelessly to meet the deadline for Havering Council in its 2023 Admissions Brochure for September 2024. They also went to great efforts in making provisional staff appointments, accelerated advertising, social media and marketing in preparation for the new school while applications for places were readily received from parents.

The pupil admission statistics were firmly on target to surpass the mutually agreed minimum threshold required in time for the new school opening, however DfE discussions with Havering Council regarding the financial support required to accelerate the school’s opening failed to materialise sufficiently.

Undoubtedly this latest delay will come as a disappointment for those First Choice parents without their preferred school who were left with no other option than to select an alternative school, merely a month before all Primary School places in England are to be published to parents (National Offer Day April 16th). Having waited patiently since 2018 for the school to be opened everyone at TEST fully understands and shares the feeling of disappointment by prospective parents.

With the school construction work finally underway, not to be perturbed by this most recent postponement, The Emmanuel School Trust are eager to continue the current momentum and work closely with DfE to secure the September 2025 opening date, so that the full 60 Reception places originally planned for that can be guaranteed, as well as the Nursery and the additional provision for 12 children with specific learning challenges.
